Why Mini Nubians?

I have to admit, when I decided I wanted to add a milking goat to our farm, I was a sucker for the Nubian floppy ears.  We went to a local Nubian farm planning to get a starter group.  But, realized they were bigger than we had hoped.  I started researching the other breeds.  Nigerian Dwarf was more the size, but they didn't produce as much milk and they didn't have those cute floppy ears!  So, I kept looking and found the perfect breed for me and my farm. Mini Nubians!

The Mini Nubian is smaller than the Nubian goats and their smaller size makes them a lot easier to handle than their larger relatives.  This makes hoof trimming, clipping, moving, and milking become much easier. They are just the right size for children as well.  Mini Nubians are bred to look like the Nubians with those adorable floppy ears and roman noses, but to stay small.  Another advantage of the Mini Nubians is that they can produce 2/3 the amount of milk as a Nubian on about half the feed.  That makes them a great fit for a smaller farm or homestead  The Mini Nubian makes the perfect home milker as they give more milk, but with a higher butterfat, that is excellent for cheese-making, yogurt, butter etc.
